Brent was born in St George, UT, where his father was a professor of Zoology at Dixie College.  The family moved to Provo, Ut, before his second birthday and has lived in Provo since then.

After graduation from high school in 1955, Brent was drafted into the U.S. Army and sent to Germany for two years.  After his return, he began his career in retail as manager and buyer for the Hoover Clothing and Ski Company.  In 1962 he married Fae Clarkson and began working at Clark’s Department Store where he was a part owner.  He was the Men’s clothing buyer at Clark’s and manager and buyer for the ski shop and in the summer for the bike shop.

In the summer of 1970, Robert Redford approached Brent to become the General Manager of the Sundance Ski Resort.  He started at Sundance in October of 1970 and worked for the Sundance Group for 30 years.  He managed the resort from 1970 to 1989.  In 1987 he became a founding partner in the Sundance mail order Catalog.  He continued as General Manager of the resort for two more years, then left the resort to work full time as Vice President of Merchandise at the Sundance Catalog.  He retired from the catalog in 2000.

Brent served on many boards during his tenure at Sundance.  He was appointed to the State Tram Safety Board by three separate Utah Governors, where he served for 12 years.  He served seven of those years as Board President.  He also served as President of the Utah Ski Area Operators for three years. While Brent was General Manager, he started a ski program at the Utah State Hospital, in Provo, involving teenagers who were living at the hospital for various reasons.  When the program started there was little equipment for the beginning skiers.  Over time, he was able to provide donated skis for all the participants.  The ski equipment was presented to the hospital and was used for years until the hospital’s mission changed.

As General Manager of Sundance, Brent worked closely with tourism entities all over Utah.  In 2017 he was inducted into Utah’s Tourism Hall of Fame.  He played a very strategic role in the development of the Provo Canyon Bike Trail and many other amenities connected with the construction of the highway from Provo to the Sundance turn off.

Brent is the husband of Fae Beck, and the father of four children, three sons, and one daughter.  These children were instrumental in Providing 12 grandchildren that made everything up to that time worth it.  He still skis at Sundance occasionally.  He celebrated his 82 birthday in February and will mark 56 years of marriage in July of this year.
